Natural resources management and environmental restoration firm Biohabitats (Baltimore, MD) has received a major contract from the National Park Service (NPS) to provide re-vegetation and restoration planning, implemention, and monitoring services throughout the eastern United States for units of the Department of Interior, the U.S. Forest Service, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The ID/IQ contract has an estimated value of $20 million. In announcing the contract, Biohabitats President Keith Bowers cited a University of Oregon study claiming to show that every $1 million spent on water quality and other environmental restoration projects generates 15 to 24 jobs. “Ecological restoration can be a real catalyst for job creation, economic vitality and ecosystem resiliency,” he noted.
