The waste management industry continues the conversion of its vehicle fleet from diesel power to compressed natural gas (CNG) through recent moves by Waste Pro USA (Longwood, FL) and Republic Services, Inc. (Phoenix, AZ). Waste Pro announced that it will invest $100 million in diesel-to-CNG conversion, including the construction of CNG fueling facilities throughout the South. “Our future includes a continued commitment to solar-powered facilities, residential and commercial recycling, landfill diversion, and clean air,” said John Jennings, Waste Pro’s president and CEO. “This move will dramatically reduce emissions in our operating footprint and potentially provide fueling stations for the cities and counties we serve.” Meanwhile, Republic Services announced plans to add 60 CNG vehicles to its Indianapolis fleet in 2012. Altogether, the company operates more than 700 CNG vehicles throughout the United States.
